Competitive
Dimensions of Data Recovery:
Print
Version
When evaluating
competitive data recovery services, these are the dimensions that must
be considered. |
| Quality |
What
is actually delivered in the recovered data. |
Are folder names,
folder structures, and file names delivered or simply file fragments?
Are the recovered files tested for integrity, and actual usability,
prior to delivery? |
|
Potential |
What
types of failures can be recovered. |
Many data losses
which appear simple, are actually the result of complex mechanical
failures. If internal repairs need to be made, or the platters
scanned independent of the drive assembly, does the firm have both
expertise and facilities to do this without damaging your data. |
| Speed |
For
more complex recoveries, what are the elements that will affect the
length of the recovery process. |
If a software
recovery is possible, will the software used be fast proprietary
professional software or off-the-shelf software which often misses key
data, and takes a long time. Also if parts are required, are
those parts in stock, or will they need to be located, causing additional
delays. |
|
Cost |
What
will be your total cost, both in dollars, time, and uncertainty. |
Does the potential
cost reflect the fact that well trained and compensated professionals
are going to work on your recovery. Are you being presented with a
realistic range of costs, given that your problem can range from the
very simple to the extremely complex. Would you trust a doctor,
who tells you that he will fix any problem for the same cost? |
